While the OpenSolaris-derivedOpenIndiana operating system doesn't come to mind as a HTPC/multimedia operating system, the Kodi software was just ported to it.

Phoronix reader Harley pointed out that XBMC/Kodi has been ported to OpenIndiana , one of the few open-source projects left around OpenSolaris and powered by the Illumos kernel.

The code for this Kodi port to OpenIndiana hasn't yet been mainlined so if you're interested in giving it a go you need to use this fork of Kodi for the time being. Of course, given the OpenIndiana/Solaris driver situation, this will basically be of use to just those on the proprietary NVIDIA graphics driver for best results.
