Mario Kart Tour, powerhouse developerNintendo’s latest mobile game, has had the second-biggest launch month in history in terms of downloads. According to Sensor TowerStore Intelligence data, the blockbuster racing game has amassed an estimated 123.9 million unique downloads across both the App Store and Google Play, generating $37.4 million in player spending since its worldwide release on September 25.
The racing app is Nintendo’s most successful mobile game launch by downloads so far, eclipsingSuper Mario Run’s 21.8 million downloads more than five times over. In terms of revenue, Mario Kart Tour comes in at second place, losing out only to the $67.6 million grossed duringFire Emblem Heroes’ launch month. Mario Kart Tour is faring less well in terms of revenue per download, with an average of $0.26 spent per player — a slight improvement over Dr. Mario World’s $0.19 per player, whileDragalia Lost’s impressive $16.50 per player in its first month has yet to be beat.
While Pokémon GO is the undisputed champion when it comes to mobile launches, Mario Kart Tour is still performing impressively, with its 123.9 global downloads equaling 76 percent ofPokémon GO’s 163 million downloads in its first 30 days. However, it’s worth noting that Pokémon GO was initially limited to just the United States, Australia, and New Zealand — much different from Mario Kart Tour’s complete global launch. Keep an eye on the Sensor Tower blog, as we’ll continue to monitor Mario Kart Tour’s progress over the coming months.
